That looks to be mostly 50s cars. I guess cars didn’t last long enough back then to be jalopies. Think about today and how every parking lot has around 5 cars over 20 years old.

Think about how much cars changed between 1935-1955 and compare that with how much cars have changed between 1995-2015. Which, I suppose, is your point. But I thinking third beyond simple reliability and speaks more about a fundamental change in cars in the earlier generations.

I agree with you. It goes beyond reliability. Cars did change quite a bit from then. People also had more money and cars were arguably larger as status symbols then than now.
